Life As We Know It

I am starting a new blog to share the events of our soon-to-change lives. Since roughly October/November of 2009, we have been in the process of becoming licensed foster parents, with the intention of parenting children/babies between the ages of 0-12 months. We plan on having no more than two at a time. This has honestly been a long time coming, as I knew that Britt's wanted to do this since before I knew her. Her grandparents are foster parents. Her aunt is a foster parent, and her family does foster care for a living. Needless to say, it's in her blood. She's been trying to convince me to want to do it since we've been married, and after much thinking and praying, I decided it was something I wanted to do. We have been surrounded by babies since we've been dating, constantly being around her family's foster babies and looking after them every once in a while, and I believe this is something we are meant to do. I know Brittany will be an amazing, wonderful mother, and I have faith that I will be a good father as well.

A main reason I felt that this was a good time to dive into the foster care system was that Britt and I have had a lot of trouble having a baby, and for whatever reason, it seems as though at this point in our lives its just not possible. So knowing this information, we thought since we have much love to provide to a helpless baby, this is a perfect time to become foster parents.

We are ALMOST done with the process. At this point, we are just waiting on my fingerprint clearance card to come, along with a couple other small items of paperwork.

My goal for this blog is to share my view of all that is foster parenting (while obviously not providing certain better-kept-private information). The joys, the heartaches, etc. Maybe offer a little insight to what it is like to fall in love with an unhealthy, drug addicted baby, only to watch it go back to the same situation it came from a year down the road, after they've become a healthy happy child. I also intend to share our experiences as new parents, as we will treat this just like having a child of our own.

It's going to be a wild ride.
